This happened on Feb. 26 when the MBox from ClubM was awarded first place for Best Packaging in the Best of Edibles List Awards 2016, presented by Edibles Magazine.

Join us at Emerald Exchange III in Malibu!

Culturally, you could say that Northern and Southern California are worlds apart. The north is home to the high-tech capital of the world, and all of the innovation and wealth that comes with that. The sun-soaked south has Hollywood and the epicenter of beach culture, as well as aerospace and many other huge industries.

But at both ends of the state, there’s a serious appreciation for the world’s finest cannabis. That will be the focus of the third annual edition of the Emerald Exchange, March 18, 2017 at a private ranch nestled in the hills of Malibu — and ClubM will be there as a Diamond Sponsor.

This year’s Emerald Exchange is timed to coincide with the vernal equinox, and will include a Farmer’s Market from noon to 6 p.m., followed by a Dance Party until midnight. Guests will also have the opportunity to:

  • Meet the small-batch farmers who grow world-class Northern California cannabis.
  • Discover more than 20 California-based luxury cannabis brands.
  • Interact with a like-minded members of a state-wide community devoted to wellness.

A very special MBox will be available at the event. It will include premium items from Emerald Exchange III vendors — exclusive California sun-grown cannabis that you can’t get anywhere else. Please join us for California’s premier cannabis celebration!

Microdosing: when less is more

Less is more. That’s the thinking behind the growing trend toward microdosing cannabis. Wait, what? Why would you want to microdose? Isn’t the whole point to macrodose — to get as much medicine into your body (and head) as you can?

Sometimes. Then there are times when you may want to medicate just a little; as a way to maintain your clarity, enhance your creativity, and just mellow out. Or maybe you have to work or otherwise function, and you’d like a mild buzz that’s a less harmful alternative than bombarding your liver with the unhealthy effects of too much alcohol — and still fun.

Beyond that, as science uncovers more benefits of cannabis — as an organic plant-based medicine that can help with everything from insomnia to inflammation — some people are beginning to take a little bit of cannabis every day, like a supplement.

Sure, there are times when you want to smoke to excess, just to test your limits and the bounds of reality. But there’s something to be said for moderation, and maybe you’re already consuming your cannabis this way. For instance, if you’re smoking burning plant matter, you’re aware that you’re inhaling carbon, which, let’s face it, is not the best thing for your lungs. In this case, it’s less damaging to inhale a little rather than a lot. One good hit might be all you need to change your perspective, and your day. We’ll count that as a microdose.

Same with vaping, which is an excellent way to microdose. As with smoking, you can inhale once and immediately decide if you’re where you want to be, or if you require a second microdose. And with a vape pen, it’s a little easier to do anywhere, anytime.

Edibles are good for microdosing too, and there are more options all the time: cannabis-infused mints, chocolate-covered espresso beans and other chocolates, gummies and other edibles and beverages are now available in doses from 2.5 milligrams up.

While discreet, edibles also take upwards of an hour or more before you feel any effect. And you have to be careful with how much you consume, which is why people start with low doses, 5 to 10 milligrams or less, and then adjust up or down.

Ready to give microdosing a try? The ClubM stock has:

  • A large selection of indica, sativa and hybrid formulation vape pens that are ideal for microdosing.
  • If you find edibles more intriguing, 5-milligram Stokes would be a great place to start.
  • Or a nibble from our large selection of incredible artisanal chocolates from Défoncé.
  • We also highly recommend Zen potion healing tea, which balances 7.5 milligrams of THC with an equal amount of CBD.

What do you think? Is microdosing an idea whose time has come? Or an already fading fad?

This just in: premium sun-grown cannabis — in a can!

You may have noticed that our innovative friends at True Humboldt have started packaging their premium sun-grown cannabis flower in pull-top cans.

Cannabis in a can?

Yes, it’s a concept who’s time has come, and for the same reasons that coffee companies and tuna fishermen have packaged their products in tin cans for decades: When you use nitrogen to seal the can, you protect the product from oxygen and humidity, as well as light. This means the terpenes will not degrade and your cannabis flower will stay as fresh as the day it was harvested, literally for years. Tin cans are also easy to recycle, thus more friendly to the environment than plastic bags.

Each True Humboldt nitro-sealed can contains 3.5 grams of one of their exceptional strains of cannabis. The can itself is small and discreet, about the size of a chewing tobacco tin and easy to carry in your pocket — with a much more pleasing aroma once you open it. And it has a resealable lid, so you can lock the goodness back in after you crack it open.

Isn’t is it high time we all ditch the baggies? The ClubM store has True Humbold’ts nitro-canned Skywalker Indica Dominat in stock, as well as their Blue Dream Sativa.  Order  yours now — because you can!

Vapor vs. smoke: which is better and why

You know intuitively that inhaling smoke isn’t great for your lungs, right?

It’s why you cough after a good hit. Your body is not loving the soot and other by-products produced by combustion, including harmful free radicals and carcinogens. These toxic by-products are why inhaling smoke (regardless of what’s being burnt) is the leading cause of lung cancer and other respiratory diseases.

Smoking tobacco is a well-known health risk, but logically, you want to limit your cannabis smoking too, if you care about your long-term health.

The good news: We have the technology to vaporize cannabis. A vaporizer heats the substance (flower, wax shatter, etc.) to the point of dehydration. A good vaporizer — the ClubM Shop has the VapeXhale (three models), and the portable Pax 3 — will enable you to heat your cannabis to the exact temperature where active cannabinoids are released, without igniting the substance.

This means you can medicate without sucking soot into your lungs. And after all, this is about wellness, right?

The sweet spot for vaporizing cannabis is 338 degrees, quite a bit cooler than the point at which the plant material will begin to combust, which is 392 degrees. By comparison, a joint can burn at up to 2,012 degrees. At that temperature, many of the trichomes and compounds in cannabis can be destroyed, which has an effect on the nature of your high.

How the vape high is different from the smoke high

When you inhale vapor, you’re not just getting less harmful garbage in your lungs, you’re actually getting more cannabinoids. The result is a high that many people describe as more clean and clear, more in the head than the body. So if you want to medicate and get up and do things, rather than be locked to the couch, you might want to try a good vaporizer.

Another thing: Your cannabis also goes further when you vaporize it, which makes a good vaporizer an economical choice.

Ready for a high-quality vaporizer? Your lungs, your head and your pocketbook will thank you. And your timing couldn’t be better, because ClubM has entered an exclusive partnership with VapeXhale. They make some of the world’s leading vaporizers, including the epic Evo™ — which is now available to ClubM members at a special price.

For portability, you can’t beat the technologically advanced Pax 3, also available now in the ClubM store.

Have one already? Let us know in the comments how your vaporizer is working for you.

How To Eat Your Daily Cannabis

How To Eat Your Daily Cannabis

As one of the most widely popular delivery methods for medical cannabis, edibles deserve a conversation of their own. They are perfectly discreet, effective for relieving so many common symptoms, and of course, absolutely delicious.

Most important to the ingestion of any edible is the dosage. For most people, a “dose” of cannabis comes out to around 10mg THC. Some people can feel great off of 5mg, just as others may need 20mg and up to feel the effect. Either way, the general rule for newbies is to read the labels, “start low, and go slow” with edibles until you feel more comfortable estimating the right bite for your needs.

As a patient, you may have had an edible before, but the sheer variety of what’s being offered today may still surprise you!

Snacks

Most of the edibles you will find on dispensary shelves will be of the snack food variety. In addition to the traditional “special” cookies and brownies, there are gourmet chocolate bars, potato chips, gum and breath mints, and savories like crackers and pretzels. Diet-conscious patients can also find vegan energy bars infused with a sativa-dominant strain. They’re easy to enjoy anywhere, and the effects of an edible can often be much stronger and longer-lasting than flower.

Beverages

Name any beverage, and there’s bound to be a medicated version out on the market (or in development). From lemonades, sodas and iced teas to coffee and hot chocolate powders, it’s amazing what is being done in the medicated beverage space. There are even several brands creating discreet medicated water bottles – both THC and CBD varieties. Probiotic-rich kombucha teas are now being infused with cannabis, providing supreme nutritional benefit.

Special Additions

The beautiful thing about today’s edibles is that now, you can add many of them to your existing meals! Salad dressings, condiments and cooking sauces can easily be infused with THC. There are also flavored syrups that can be added to a beverage of your choice, changing the flavor while providing a sweet dose of medication at the same time.

Create Your Own

Many patients take matters into their own hands by creating novel infusions right in their kitchen at home. Just remember to “decarboxylate” flower at a temperature of 230℉ in order to activate the THC within. Then, the cannabinoids become fat- and alcohol-soluble. Create a tincture or tonic using alcohol, or infuse olive oil, coconut oil, or butter for endless edible-making possibilities. Many brands are also getting into selling THC or CBD isolate powders, which can be dissolved in anything. Try them out and judge their efficacy for yourself.

Joining Club M is one of the absolute best ways to stay abreast of all the amazing medical cannabis edibles that California has to offer. Many of our monthly subscription box sets contain a fine edible product for your enjoyment, like a special edition Bhang chocolate bar or THC-infused cooking kit from The Herbal Chef. Of course, not everything you eat can be medicated, so we always try to include a tasty non-medicated snack for you to enjoy your munchies.
