Microdosing: when less is more

Less is more. That’s the thinking behind the growing trend toward microdosing cannabis. Wait, what? Why would you want to microdose? Isn’t the whole point to macrodose — to get as much medicine into your body (and head) as you can?

Sometimes. Then there are times when you may want to medicate just a little; as a way to maintain your clarity, enhance your creativity, and just mellow out. Or maybe you have to work or otherwise function, and you’d like a mild buzz that’s a less harmful alternative than bombarding your liver with the unhealthy effects of too much alcohol — and still fun.

Beyond that, as science uncovers more benefits of cannabis — as an organic plant-based medicine that can help with everything from insomnia to inflammation — some people are beginning to take a little bit of cannabis every day, like a supplement.

Sure, there are times when you want to smoke to excess, just to test your limits and the bounds of reality. But there’s something to be said for moderation, and maybe you’re already consuming your cannabis this way. For instance, if you’re smoking burning plant matter, you’re aware that you’re inhaling carbon, which, let’s face it, is not the best thing for your lungs. In this case, it’s less damaging to inhale a little rather than a lot. One good hit might be all you need to change your perspective, and your day. We’ll count that as a microdose.

Same with vaping, which is an excellent way to microdose. As with smoking, you can inhale once and immediately decide if you’re where you want to be, or if you require a second microdose. And with a vape pen, it’s a little easier to do anywhere, anytime.

Edibles are good for microdosing too, and there are more options all the time: cannabis-infused mints, chocolate-covered espresso beans and other chocolates, gummies and other edibles and beverages are now available in doses from 2.5 milligrams up.

While discreet, edibles also take upwards of an hour or more before you feel any effect. And you have to be careful with how much you consume, which is why people start with low doses, 5 to 10 milligrams or less, and then adjust up or down.

Ready to give microdosing a try? The ClubM stock has:

  • A large selection of indica, sativa and hybrid formulation vape pens that are ideal for microdosing.
  • If you find edibles more intriguing, 5-milligram Stokes would be a great place to start.
  • Or a nibble from our large selection of incredible artisanal chocolates from Défoncé.
  • We also highly recommend Zen potion healing tea, which balances 7.5 milligrams of THC with an equal amount of CBD.

What do you think? Is microdosing an idea whose time has come? Or an already fading fad?
